Send Me Love

Claudine took Annabel to the doctor a few days back. The doctor said that she had some kind of thing (I don't know the technical term) that makes her feet not align properly. Apparently, it is fairly common in some newborns and even more common in newborn girls. A baby is incredibly flded up inside the womb. When they come out, they don't always straighten out. Think of my daughter as a blow-up sex doll just out of the box. You need to ma..... ya know.... scratch that. Do me a favor: don't think of my daughter as a blow up sex doll. But still, her feet are curved under and the muscles are starting to actually hold them in the incorrect position instead of stretching out to straighten them. So Claudine and I took her to an orthopedist this morning. When we walked out, Annie had two tiny cast on her legs. The casts force her ankles into the correct position and that stretches the muscles and tendons. I don't think Annie really even noticed, but it kind of bothered me. I don't know, it made me sad, it just looks wrong somehow. I think you can perhaps attribute it to the fact that I am a soft-hearted sap. The plan is that these casts will stay on for two weeks and then she'll get a new set. Another two weeks and she'll get another set of casts. After six weeks, the doctor told us, that that the problem should go away. If not, the we have to explore more radical options. Yuk. Let's hope that six weeks and a lot of plaster does the job.

I received another conversational e-mail from K this morning. That's a good sign.

Work is really boring today. D is out of the office for the next two days. So I don't have anyone to send snarky e-mails back and forth with.

Claudine is on call tonight. I hope it is a quiet night with no babies being born. That way we can have dinner together. We haven't had dinner as a complete family for a few days now. Either I've been in Rhode Island or she's been working evening hours seeing patients. And here's and interesting societal fact from Claudine that you may not know. There is a post 9/11 baby boom. Claudine said there was a noticable dip in births duing May/June which is about nine months after September 11th. And now the flood gates are open and people are having babies left and right. Well, not actually "left and right" 'cause that's not how it's done, but you know what I mean. Seems that a lot of people who had been putting off having a family realized that whatever reasons they had for delaying their family go out the window when they're confronted with how fleeting life can be. So Claudine's pretty busy these days.
