Send Me Love

Seeing as July contains my birthday, I'm going to take the opportunity in some posts this month to review my various looks and styles over my lifetime.

Today brings us to the 8-12 year old range.

Don't mess with me

I happen to think this is one of the coolest pictures ever taken of me. I can still remember the how and when of this picture. Every year the little league would have a photographer come to the fields and take team and individual player picures. Usually this would happen before the game. But something happened to this guy to make him run late. So we didn't get our pictures done until after the game.

So instead of looking my neatest and least disheveled, I had just finished catching a game in the middle of a Missouri summer when they lined us up for pictures. I don't even know where my hat was but I suspect that it was still in the cather's mask. I remember that I did something to win this game. I don't specifically remember if it was a play at the plate or hitting a home run, but I do remember that I had done something pretty cool to get the win. Look at me, you can see it in my face. I thought I was all badass and stuff. I have such a little smirk on my face. It's not a smile - it's a look that says, I'm too cool for this picture, but I'll let you take it before I get back to my team. But you can also see that I'm pretty wiped out, tired and sweaty. I mean, look at that hair. That hair's been sweating under a mask and helmet all afternoon.

This picture has always sat on the bookcase next to my father's side of my parents's bed. It wasn't the only picture on that bookcase. But I'd like to think it was one of his favorites. I think he always liked that I became a catcher like he was and liked to have this reminder of that fact. I've always liked this picture; the fact that my dad was able to look at it every morning and every night just makes it that much better.
