Day of Leisure, Kind of...

Go On, Go Home
Next?
Last?
Send Me Love

We did nothing today. I mean, nothing.

Leisure Bobby

Annie was up a number of times during the night. I didn't find that out until this morning. Because, you see, I am not a mom. I am the typical unfeeling male that sleeps through his daughter's crying jags in the middle of the night. I have a pretty good ability to regulate my levels of sleep. When Claudine is there, I can conk out and not hear anything. When Claudine is on call and out at the hospital, I sleep much lighter (much more lightly?... more lightly-er?). So last night I didn't hear a thing. I tell all this to make the point that Claudine was pretty tired this morning. So she went back to bed this morning for a couple of hours. I entertained the troops. All three of them.

We had some lunch and laid around some more. I watched some of the U.S. Open on T.V. It is amazing that I used to make fun of televised golf. I used to think it was the most boring, stupidest thing that could ever be televised. Now, I'm a big sucker for it. Especially with TiVo. If I let it run for about 45 minutes before I start watching, I can fast foward through all the crap and just watch the important shots.

I'm starting to be a slave to the TiVo way. I find myself wanting to rewind all the time. When I'm watching the T.V. upstairs and I miss something or I just want to see somthing again, my first instinct is to rewind it. Even when I'm listening to the radio in the car, I have found myself wanting to rewind before I realize that I'm not in front of my TiVo.

And speaking of leisure and electronic gadgets, We've really been enjoying our now IO digital cable system. (By the way, if you click that link or even hover over it, you'll see that IO is only website that I've seen using the .tv domain.) Basically, we get a billion more channels, a shitload of digital music channels and a thing they call "On Demand". On Demand lets us order shows and movies whenever we want. I'm sitting watching Mel Brooks' History of the World, Part I. I can pause it, rewind it, fast forward or watch it 20 times in a row. We can order public T.V. shows (you know, Barney and Clifford, the Big Red Dog, Fox (they have every episode of 24), HBO (all their movies, plus all their specials. I've already watched the Eddie Izzard, Dressed special twice this week), IFC movies, and a crapload of other things. Claudine has already caught up with every episode of Six Feet Under in just three weeks. IO also offers interactive traffic and weather plus a whole lot of other extraneous crap. All for just an additional 10 dollars. I know I sound like a commerical but there you are. It is good. If you can get it, get it. Click the link to see if it available where you are. We are finally getting to that future that everyone was talking about 30 years ago. Now all I need is my flying car.

Anyway, back to our day of nothing. Later in the afternoon, Claudine took Jake to see Scooby-Doo. Even though he got scared during some parts, he ended up loving it. I stayed home and played dad some more. We had a quick dinner, threw the kids in bed, quickly followed by an exhausted Claudine and here we are. Right up to this moment. uhhhm... this moment. No wait..... this moment. Oh, forget it.
